Being a 5.1 feet girl, I assumed this #1 international bestseller by a top MMA-fighter wasn’t goaled at me. The cover intrigued me though, and so I started to scan the first pages. Living Lean turned out to be a great story and I couldn’t stop reading about Dolce’s life. As a child, he saw his father collapse from a massive stroke. This planted the notion of ‘healthy through lifestyle’ in his mind. In the book, this story is covered in-depth. Now with a single parent and only thirteen years old, he traced his own path. In muscle magazines and the gym, Dolce found recourse. Over time, the MMA-fighter coached hundreds of athletes and thousands of weight-cuts.
The story is truly inspiring and motivational, and not just to MMA-fans. For me, Living Lean is a lighthearted guide into the principles of longevity. This has everything to do with eating healthy and live food, getting fit, staying positive and focused and doing it all with devotion. You can read it in a few hours and start bringing into practice the easy recipes immediatly. In the back you can find a lot of cardio and strenght work-outs too, but personally I payed more attention to the nutrition part. After I read the book, I skated to the grocery store right away and prepared myself a delicious ‘breakfast bowl’ with oat bran, berries, raisins, banana, flax seed and what not. It’s all very Winnie de Pooh, simple. One negative: the book is way overpriced (30 euro/40 dollars), so if you don’t want to spend the dough, life-hack the shit out of it and google a pdf or start with the recipes on Pinterest.
O, and listen to his appearence on the JRE, about which he says: “I got to tell you that this was one of my most proud moments as a professional and person. Rogan is a great dude, super smart, and his show is awesome. I’m pretty sure I’ve listened to all 300 plus episodes and most more than once.”
Mike Dolce (1976) is an American professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. He is currently fighting for the Portland Wolfpack of the International Fight League. Dole trained top notch fighters such as Vitor Belfort, Thiago Alves, Chael Sonnen, Jay Hieron and Chris Leben.
